Exploring key moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turning them on their head, taking audiences into uncharted territory. Chadwick Boseman’s final Marvel project before his death. Watcher: [Opening narration for each episode] Time. Space. Reality. It’s more than a linear path. It’s a prism of infinite possibilities, where a single choice can branch into infinite realities and create alternate worlds from the ones you know. I am the Watcher. I am your guide through these vast new realities. Follow me and ponder the question… “What if?”. When the Marvel logo appears, it transitions into an animated form in the show’s art style. Transformed into Marvel Studios: Legends: Guardians of the Multiverse (2023). A very straightforward rush episode that puts the pieces straight into the puzzle. And my expression was also pretty straight watching this episode because there was no suspense or even a logical narrative, I get that it’s an animated show aimed at kids maybe? But only kids who know the entire MCU by now can probably appreciate it. We’ll see how the other episodes develop, but I’m really not that excited about them after this one. Edit: The second episode gave a real sense of what the MCU is all about, it was creative and thoughtful with big WHAT IF moments. I had a blast watching T’Challa back on screen. The third episode was the deciding factor though and made me change this review. It was such an emotional and exciting watch that I could have watched the entire movie from this episode. It revisited the characters we know on a level that makes you want more. I hope to get to a 10 star edit by the end of the season. Edit II: Here’s my second star for a “strange” but thought-provoking episode that was by far the best of them all in terms of writing, voice acting, animation, and plot. Special mention to Benedict Cumberbatch who nailed the voice acting like a boss. Kudos to Marvel for pulling this off. By episode five, though, the episode was certainly entertaining, funny, and engaging with quality animation, but once again, it showed too much at once and didn’t give viewers enough time to absorb things. Still a 9/10 overall rating for the series until at least the next two episodes. They’ll have to beat episode 4 to get a 10 from me.
